First Impressions of the Bacchetta Quattro
The fourth iteration of the Bacchetta Carbon Aero, the Quattro, has been in development for over two years. That development has finally come to fruition!
We received our first Bacchetta Quattro frameset at the end of July and quickly built it up to get some test riding done. The results were amazing - the changes we made truly changed the look and feel of this amazing pedigree.
Stiffer frame for better handling
Optimized for disk brakes, including internal cabling, a large head tube to accommodate tapered forks, and seamless brake mounting to use today's best brakes.
Sliding seat for infinite, easy seat adjustments.
Longer wheelbase for better handling, especially for taller riders.
So what are some of the specific things we noticed while riding? First, the bike is stiff in all the right places. When going full power, there is no 'wag' in the front end from a mushy boom. There is no excess chain noise under pressure from a flexing idler. And at high speeds (over 35mph), the bike rolled right where it was pointed. Perhaps these things may seem obvious when you read them, but the opposite of each is a sign of a flexing frame.
Disk brakes are the way to go in the modern age of bicycles. They may add a little weight, but the feeling of control, even from mechanical disk brakes, is definitely worth it. At no point was I worried that my wimpy caliper brakes weren't going to be able to stop this 200 pound rider.
The sliding seat on the Bacchetta Quattro made fine-tuning the seat position easy and quick (5mm wrench required). Gone are the days of moving the seat from seat hole to seat hole. The stiff rail allows the seat to slide easily to different positions.
